2018 Best Small SUVs

Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are all the rage right now, with most auto manufacturers developing their own version of the highly-popular vehicle option. SUVs are stylish, they often go hand-in-hand with adventuring and off-roading, and more than anything, they provide drivers with the space and comfort needed for all passengers (and cargo) when travelling short or long distances with the family or a group of friends.

If you find yourself in the market for an SUV, a good place to start looking is the Ford brand. Dependable, good-quality and stylish vehicles, with an intention to create enhanced driver experience, Ford has quite a few SUV models on their current roster this year that are worth checking out.

Below is an overview of the 2018 Ford SUV lineup.

The Escape

As one of Ford’s more economically-priced SUVs, the 2018 Escape seats five and offers four differing variations of the model (S, SE, SEL, and Titanium). With ten exterior colors to choose from, comfort meets style with this incredible SUV. Drivers also get many technology perks from the Escape, including: Hands-Free Power Liftgate, which is foot-activated; Auto Start-Stop to help out with fuel efficiency; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to connect drivers with their smartphone devices; as well as the innovative Sync Connected app (powered by the FordPass – a WI-FI hotspot within the vehicle), which can link drivers to Roadside Assistance or their local dealer, as well as help with parking situations and gas pricing options as your drive along to your destination.

Still, many out there choose an SUV for space and storage, and the Escape offers plenty of both. With its 60/40 Rear-Split Backs feature, you can store items while you are on the go, and still have room for passengers in the back. Roof rack side rails are also available for additional cargo, for those things that don’t fit easily with your SUV. For those who enjoy a premium feel within their affordable SUV, SE and Titanium Escapes offer partial leather trim and heated seats. The opportunities are endless with the 2018 Ford Escape, and this vehicle is a great option for those entering the SUV landscape for the first time.

The Edge

The Edge is the next level SUV within Ford’s lineup and is offered in four different models, including: SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. Seating five, it provides much of the same features as the Escape (FordPass/Sync Connect smartphone connection, Hands-Free Liftgate, Auto Start-Stop, etc.), but with some added features that gives this SUV a little edge.

With a sportier and sleeker look to it, the 2018 Ford Edge’s twin scroll 2-liter EcoBoost and 2.7-liter EcoBoost engines (that’s right, there’s two of them) offers additional power, fuel efficiency, and performance to help with anyone’s fast-paced and busy lifestyle. The SUV showcases a 180-degree camera that can assist drivers in seeing around corners, along with its own washer hiding within the grill to keep these views crystal clear at all times.

Drivers can hit the open road with confidence, thanks to the Edge’s Available Intelligent AWD function, with sensors that are always working to monitor the balance torque and traction from the front to rear wheels; essentially maximizing the traction of the vehicle. This a standard feature on the Edge Sport, but also available on the SE, SEL, and Titanium models. The 2018 Ford Edge is available in eight different exterior colors to choose from, bold shades that work to enhance the Edge’s dynamic shape and fluid lines that run throughout the body of the SUV. The inside of the Edge reflects the craftmanship and quality that is known for Ford vehicles, where style and function work together within the SUV to offer drivers a beautifully designed interior where drivers can make good use out of their center stack, instrument panel, doors, and shifter. The Edge understands that everyday life happens, and the car looks to help keep organization under control, while looking good at the same time.

The Explorer

Looking for increased seating capacity, enhanced space, luxury, and style … all wrapped up in one SUV? Well, look no further than the 2018 Ford Explorer! While you can drive it to the hottest fine dining establishment in town, the Explorer is also perfect for those with an off-roading and adventurous heart; it really is the perfect SUV for any occasion.

Seating seven and available in five models (Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Explorer Platinum), drivers have a whopping ten exterior colors to choose from. This, along with the SUV’s outside satin-chrome finish, allows owners of the 2018 Ford Explorer to make a huge statement about their vehicle and their lifestyle.

And, the Explorer is all about making a huge statement. In addition to all the fun techy gadgets and safety options available within Ford’s SUV lineup, the Explorer is all about having outdoor fun, in style. The Explorer Platinum option offers an interior with Nirvana leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats (as well as heated second-row seats), a leather-wrapped steering wheel that is heated as well (got to stay warm for those outside adventures), and a twin-panel moonroof, for star-gazing and other whirlwind travels.

Unlike the other two Ford SUVs mentioned, the Explorer also offers a 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine. Turbocharging and direct injection combined, this EcoBoost engine is the best-in-class, with a horsepower of 365 V6 and an added 350-pound-foot of torque. This engine is considered a standard feature within the Explorer Platinum and Sport models.

Lastly, while adventuring should be whimsical, it should also be safe. The Explorer SUV is equipped with Ford’s techy 4WD intelligent function, which has an added Terrain Management System feature to it. Available as on option within the Explorer, Limited, and XLT, the feature comes standard on the Platinum and Sport Explorers; and it simply changes the game of off-roading. As you head to roads less-travelled, drive on with confidence in your 2018 Ford Explorer, which allows a driver to shift on the fly within four setting options to match the terrain you are driving on. Regardless of whether you are battling grass, sand, gravel, mud, or snow, the 4WD function will help you along the way, and this function also includes a Hill Descent Control to help keep speed levels while driving down a hill.

The 2018 Ford Explorer certainly is the perfect SUV for those looking to up their weekend travel game, but also require a luxurious and dependable vehicle to drive from Point A to Point B during the week.
